What is the different between internal DNS and external DNS?

Use different DNS servers for different domains?

  • I have windows 7,i want to configure different dns servers for different websites. My isp's login page only works with his dns server,if i use open dns..i cant load up my isp login page. So i want to use my isp's dns server to load isp;s login page and for other sites i want to use OpenDns. Is there a software to do this? i would prefer a batch file or something like that. Thanks.

  • Answer:

If you go to the TCP/IP v4 settings on your PC, you should find that you can set the DNS address to be loaded automatically, or specified manually. On my PC, which is running Vista not Win7, there is space for two DNS entries. Have you tried setting the first entry to your preferred DNS, and the second one to your ISPs DNS. I don't know whether this will work, but I would give it a try. Another thing you could try is pointing the DNS to your favourite one, and using the numeric IP address for your ISPs login. On my PC, I have my DNS entry pointing to a public DNS, and this stops me accessing the router using the URL that my ISP says I should use. I access my router purely with the numeric address, and this works fine.
