How to share my printer via 7 to xp?

How do i file and printer share Windows Vista and Windows XP?

  • I have a wireless router. I have two computers one running Windows Vista and one running Windows XP. I created a workgroup and tried to share the printer on the computer running Windows XP. The computer running Windows XP can "see" my computer running Windows Vista but my other computer could NOT "see" the computer running the Windows XP. Why is that? Also, when i try to open the computer running Windows Vista in the computer running Windows XP, i could not open it and a message says that i do not have sufficient rights to open the Windows Vista computer, although there are public folders in the computer running Vista. Please give me step by step procedure in interconnecting these two computers so that i could share the printer in my Windows XP computer.

I had the same problem running a network of Vista and XP computers. Download the free version of Network Magic which contains a 7-day trial of Network Magic Pro at http://www.networkmagic.com/download/ . Then after it is installed open the shared folders tab and share the folders that you want shared. You have to install the program on each computer on your network. As for the printers you have to go into printer properties-Sharing and Share the printer, then go to the other computers and add the printer. You may need updated printer drivers before you do this. If the printers are new, a call to Tech Support would be your best bet, or specify which printers you want to share and to which computers (Vista or XP they are connected, also if the printers are wired or wireless).
