Is an associate's degree in computer networking a good degree?

Is it better to have associates degree in computer networking or CCNA? ?

  • Im finishing my pre req classes this spring, im just wondering if it is better to have an associates in computer networking or is something else going to benefit me more? Or should i get both?

  • Answer:

They cover different things. Academic qualifications cover basic theory and underlying principles that are universal across different systems. They don't teach you the specifics or particular systems except possible as an example of a real-life system. Industry certifications on the other hand cover the specifics of a particular system. If you want to hit the ground running an industry cert such as CCNA will better allow you to do that, but the associate's degree will better teach you what is going on under the hood and will still be relevant long after your CCNA has become obsolete.
