I'm not sure you can unless you desktops' modem can support ethernet cord to go to your laptop.

its so simple, just install another lan card on your desktop which will cost you Rs. 150 only and just take a "cross cable" to connect your laptop's network port with your new desktop lan port. Now you'll be having two connections in your desktop. One for internet connection, second one for connecting with laptop. Just share your internet connection via window's default "internet connection sharing" and your work is done. Simple. You will need a router or a hub. You didn't say weather you want to connect via hard wire or WIFI.

Does your company have a network domain? If so use a hub and connect the laptop and Desktop to one of the hubs ports. Then right click "My Computer" go to properties. Go to computer name then change. Add the laptop to the domain.--type the FQDN. You will need a user with domain admin rights to enter their username and pw. Then it will prompt you to restart. After the restart should be able to connect to the company LAN and the internet provided the domain has a web proxy server. If no domain: Enable connection sharing on the desktop; then connect the laptop to the desktop via ethernet cable. name the share and ping the ip addr of the laptop. Since no DHCP service running the TCP/IP address of desktop and laptop should start with 169.254.x.y If internet is broadband and is connected via ethernet: connect a router to the incomming line. Connect laptop and desktop (via ethernet cable ) to the router.

assuming your laptop and desktop do not have wireless cards, you would have to get a second ethernet card for your wired computer and connect to the laptop. If they both have wifi, but you don't have a wifi router, then you can share the signal over wifi. I was doing this for a year with my cable modem, desktop mac and my ibook before i broke down and bought a wifi router. If you need instructions how to do this on windows ask someone else, or check Google.

Put wireless card in the laptop. Put a wireless card in the PC. Internet share the NIC card in the PC.

If it was up to me, I would put a wireless router between the desktop PC and the Internet connection and put a wireless NIC in the laptop. It would give you more range than bluetooth and more overall flexibility in the networking of your PCs and other networked devices. Good luck, Captain Computer
