Hello there. =) Bit Torrent Is basically a torrent 'client' which you use to download torrents ^_^ Chatting or Email or Yahoo or Gmail or Facebook are totally different :D Hope you understand.. 'peers' are basically 'people downloading the same torrents as you' Torrents can be found at torrent search engines like www.torrentz.com Take care. hope i helped. best ans. right? =P

Bittorrent (torrent) is a way to distribute content, and that's it. In other words, it is a way to share and download files. Google talk (Gmail) is using XMPP protocol, and Yahoo chat their won proprietary protocol. Chats have absolutely nothing to do with Bittorrent.
