If I change my internet provider, does my IP address change?

How to change my IP Address?

  • Hi, I'm looking to change my IP address. I have a Macbook Pro and a Wireless Netgear WGR614 Router. Charter Communications is also my ISP (Internet Service Provider) I'm looking to change my IP Address (NO not for illegal reasons, I want to go on a website without them knowing it was me before. I used to be on this website but got in trouble and want to start clean) So if you can let me know how to effectively change it, it would be well appreciated. I have a DYNAMIC IP so don't worry it's not static, and I have tried many times to change it too. Such as turning off router for a prolonged period of time (I turn it off every night before bed and it doesn't change) I've also tried configuring it within the router but then I just can't access the internet.

  • Answer:

Your internet provider assigns you an IP address...you don't have any control over this. It's kind of like your home address. It is what it is until you move (or your provider assigns you a new one...which they probably will do every once in a while).

There are several ways to do it. First way is to try a "browsing anonymously" site to where you use their website as a middle-man. Secondly you can try an IP spoofer to where it is supposed to report your IP address as a different address to the website. Lastly, and possibly the easiest, your ISP will reassign your IP address if you take your modem offline for a few hours (most ISPs have a default between 2-4 hours, some may take up to 8).

You probably can't. Most ISPs will give you the same IP address every time that you connect to the Internet. Most websites don't ban access by IP address but by plating a cookie on your machine. In that case, changing your IP address won't get you on the site.

You can not change your ip address unless you have a static ip address which you can get by contacting your ISP. Also having a static IP cost a little more a month than usual, But your ISP should give you the details

EC

You can use a proxy server, or you can ask your ISP for a new IP address since they control your IP.

It can only be done by your ISP, nothing you can do .
