How does the internet work?

How do I get Internet Connection Sharing to work?

  • Here is the situation. I recently bought a media streamer and network router for my bedroom so I could watch files from my laptop on my TV. So far so good, I have a mini network in my bedroom (using Windows Media Player Sharing on it for the media streamer). I have recently got an xBox 360 and instead of shelling out £50 for a wireless adaptor (have a BT Home Hub downstairs which my laptop connects to) I want to use the internet connection from my laptop to give internet acces to my mini network, which the xBox 360 is connected too. I have tried doing the internet connection sharing option, but this either cuts off my laptops connection to the mini network, or cuts off access to the internet through the Home Hub (can still get on the hub manager though when this happens). Can anyone please tell me how to get it so that my mini network can get internet access through my laptops internet connection to the Home Hub?

  • Answer:

You can not reliably use 2 routers on the same connection. You are better getting cables from the home hub (which is actually a router) up to your other equipment, or one cable to a network switch, and distribute from there. You do not get a very fast connection through ICS.

If you really want to get hacked there are easier ways. However, Internet Connection Sharing is a good way for hackers, just not that good for you.
