How to print to a laptop computer without a router?

I have a Windows 2000 Professional loaded on my Dell Laptop. How can I print from the l-top (d-top is XP ) ?

  • I have a Linksys Router, a desktop computer with Windows XP, and a Dell Laptop with Windows 2000. I am able to connect to the Internet wirelessly with my Laptop, but I am unable to network to the XP computer from the Dell. Since I can not network to the XP computer I am unable to print from my laptop wirelessly. Please note this laptop was a giveaway from work and since I do not know the admin password I am unable to sign in as an admin. My only goal is to be able to print. I do not have a need to see or open documents on the desktop from my Dell. Thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

The admin is gonna be a ***** because you dont have the right to add the laptop to the desktop for networking purposess. But once you do take care of that then I would use a switch or a cross over cable then add the printer to the dell and then print.

Email to yourself and print from your desktop (pain, I know).

On your desktop PC, select the printer in the "printers and Faxes" window. Righ-click on it and select "sharing...". Follow the instructions through to enable the PC t be seen on your network, and to share the printer. On your laptop, all you then need to do is click Start > Run and type the IP address for your desktop PC. You'll then see the printer and any other shared resources.
