How to connect to a wireless internet connection using my PC?

How to connect two PC using cross over cable for Internet Connectivity?

  • I have one PC and One Laptop. Both are using Windows XP. The first one is connected to internet using dial-up connection through modem. Both have LAN card. My Question is: How to connect both of them so we can access Internet from both computers at the same time? Can you show me how to do the configuration? Thank you.

  • Answer:

Well a x-over cable would be used to connect computers directly together, bypassing a hub/switch; just assign static IP addresses. With the one machine connected to the internet, you enable Internet Sharing through the Network connection properties.

Connect the cable to both computers’ network card. Yap.. we have finished the setup. Here comes the network configuration, let’s create a simple network: Computer A: IP Address: 10.1.1.1 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: DNS Servers: Computer B: IP Address: 10.1.1.2 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: DNS Servers: Since these 2 computers are directly connected, no gateway and DNS servers are needed

its better to connect internet through USB port. through lan cards connect laptop and desktop systems. now share the internet connection through lan card. assign ip address to the pc system. and do no assign ip address to laptop..........it may work try it once.........

Seeing that you are using XP and to save me typing a lot of garble. On the one that is connected to the internet. Go to the control panel (in classic view) open network setup wizard. Select you want to share your internet connection. Then follow the wizard. On the other computer Go to the control panel (in classic view) open network setup wizard. Select no you do not want to share the internet. Select the second option then click next. Remember to keep the network name different but keep the workgroup name the same. Hope this helps

Plug in the crossover cable between the ethernet cards.Install ICS "internet connection sharing." It will be in network setup wizard. After you install this you will need to connect the PC that has dial-up before using the internet on the PC you are trying to supply internet for. Just bring up IE and it will connect http://www.homenethelp.com/ics/ics-install-sxp.asp

Best way is to use WiFi router and WLAN in your computer. or use 8 port switch and cable with CAT5/6 on its different ports.
