How do I work the queue on tumblr?

For a queue on tumblr, it says like automatically publish a queued post... then you put the number. I'm not really sure what that number means. Does it mean that it's going to publish one of the same picture however many times you choose from or does it mean that it's going to publish that amount of pictures that you choose from the list or whatever? i've never really used my queue before.
