How can I use an Azure reserved IP?

What might cause TCP/IP auto config to use the wrong gateway?

  • I have a server with two clients. Client A works fine, but Client B has a TCP/IP issue. When I use the auto configuration option, it sets the gateway with the IP address for the server. Client A also uses the auto configuration for the TCP/IP and it sets the gateway to the correct IP address. I can cofigure Client B to use the correct gateway along with the IP and the subnet mask, but since the server has DHCP enabled I would prefer to use the auto config for the TCP/IP.

  • Answer:

You can use DHCP and still define your default gateway in the network card IP service setting under the advanced options button. (in network connections select the network adapter, select IP, select advanced, add the default gateway and save) There is a default gateway address in the registry most likely causing your problem.

the best is manual configure of the serverB and set the server A with autoconfig, there are no problem with use one server autoconfig and the other manual config. But the problem you have could be in the router you use because when you set the router you have to put the cofig in dhcp auto. If you don't use a router you could have a problem resolve the ips.

agree with Jmoore on that one. Sometimes DHCP can be stubborn when it assigns it's addresses. Manual configuration is the best way to customize a network to your specifications, right down to the gateways.
