what happens internally in a router when lan is configured?

Can not connect to the routerAR800V v3.0 through PCI 10/100 LAN Card in P4 Desktop?

  • When installing PCI Lan Card 10/100, the auto installation showed the LAN TCP/IP 169.254.158.50. While as Router provided by BSNL (AR800V v3.0) does not communicate with the PC. My router is configured for LAN as well as Wi-Fi and functioning properly for my Laptop. my question is (1) Can Physical address of LAN card / Router make any effect ? (2) What the TCP /IP should be given for LAN setting? (3) Does DNS Setting can be comman for my laptop and desktop? (Will never use simultaneously) Can anybody guide me as after installing LAN (firewall off) even 192.168.1.1 is not connected Please guide me urgently

  • Answer:

A quick fix: 1. I am assuming that your BSNL ADSL/Router IP Address is set to 192.168.1.1 2. Go to the TCP/IP properties of your network card on the PC and set the IP Address to any free address in the range 192.168.1.0/24 (example: 192.168.1.10, mask 255.255.255.0) 3. Set your DNS to 4.2.2.2 (or any other public available DNS or find out the BSNL DNS server IP Address and set it) 4. Forget firewall for the moment. 5. Configure your BSNL ADSL/Router for PPPoE and enter the username/password given by BSNL in the setup (I am not familiar with AR800V and hence can't help you there. Hopefully the router should come with a manual on how to set it up) After the above config, your setup should be OK and you should be able to access Internet
