Vista Toshiba Laptop cannot connect to my Dell computer network?

  • The router and modem connected to my dell computer are fine, i restarted them and all and my laptop still could not connect. My one friend came over with his laptop today and could connect to our network fine, but our laptop can't. On my laptop, a toshiba windows vista, I want to use my LAN highspeed internet (Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0), I think it is in-built into vista. But it says 'a cable is not plugged into the network adapter 'Local Area Connection'. What is this cable, and where do I plug it in? And I want to use Wireless connection, i dont want to have to hook the laptop up to the dell computer to get internet on it. Windows Network Diagnostics tells me that the laptop doesn't have a wireless network adapter installed and configured. I think it might be right, because when I go to my Device Manager, The Biometric Coprocessor and Network Controller are not installed. I think I may know why. The laptop was broken for a while before we found the recovery disks, when we put them in and boot up vista the screen says 'applying final configurations' and then blacks out, the most time i left it blank was 8 hours before turning it off because i knew it wasnt doing anything. anyway, every time i want to start vista, i have to ctrl-alt-delete and switch user, and then log back in and it doesn't black out, however it comes up with two windows that says something about a dll error and a fatal error, but all is well after that... except i can't connect to a network. So i think i have to install these two things, the biometric coprocessor and network controller, whatever they are. and i don't think i will be able to do it using the recovery disks. so is there any way i can download these, or actually, does anyone know of anywhere i can download free wireless network adapters for windows vista? if so, thanks, or if you have another solution, please say it.

  • Answer:

You have a damaged Windows installation. Use a memory stick to save all your My Documents files. Then reinstall the recovery disks again. Once you do that you may have to go to Toshiba's website to download the drivers for your exact model and install them, assuming they are not already on the recovery disk.
