How can I get my Xbox Live connection faster so I do not lag?

How do I get rid of wireless interference on a 5ghz connection?

• Well to simply put it, I play Xbox Live, like most teens these days. I usually play competitively, so having lag (interference that slows down your connection speed) is something I usually can't stand. Unfortunately, in my home, my mom and my brother have two laptops. When they get on certain sites, or load any pages, I get lots of lag. So just recently, I've looked into how I can stop this. Turns out, our NETGEAR router has the ability to use a 5ghz connection. So far, I've tried switching my old 2.4ghz connection to a 5ghz connection. What I thought was "if I use a 5ghz connection for Xbox Live, maybe my mom and brother won't be able to interfere with it anymore." But, as it would seem, it didn't work. At this point, I'm contemplating whether or not to use a Bandwith Limiter so they won't take up all the bandwith. If anyone can help, it'd be appreciated. So the question is, how can I stop my mom's laptop and my brother's laptop interfering with my connection while I'm on Xbox Live? Router: NETGEAR WNDR3700 Online Provider: Verizon Online

  What the heck led you to that conclusion? Did it occur to you that the "interference" has nothing to do with wireless, but instead that your internet connection simply isn't fast enough to maintain everyone using it at once? 5ghz fares poorly with obstructions, so any walls between you and the router is going to screw it up. If you want to eliminate wireless as a problem, run a cable. If you still have problems, get a better internet connection.
