I need to change the IP back, how would I go about doing this any information would help. Thanx.

  • Answer:

Your IP was most likely assigned by the router using DHCP. If you want to set it static to 192.168.1.101 then goto control panel and open Network Connections. Right click on the Local Area Connection that you want to assign the IP address to. Go to properties...highlight Internet Protocol (tcp/ip) and click properties. Click on use the following IP address and type in 192.168.1.101 Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway is 192.168.1.1 You can use open DNS which works great 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 That should do it. Good Luck =) Then again...everyone telling you that it should not make a difference is right....i just wanted to give you the settings so you can set them and see for yourself that it makes no difference =)

You must have another problem. That shouldn't have any effect at all.

Your system speed (or lack there-of) has NOTHING to do with the fact that your browser has assigned you another IP address. Again (for the 100th time this month), when you flush your system and start over you flush away all of the correct device drivers, settings, utilities and other ESSENTIAL programs used to make your system work correctly. Go to the hardware vendor's web site and download current drivers for every device in your system--even the dozen devices that you don't know about but are necessary to keep the system at top performance. Of course, if you aren't connecting to a private ISP but borrowing your neighbor's THAT can account for your speed problems and perhaps your system problems as well.

You dont change that, that is set by your router, and it would not be a issue of speed. Either you managed to snag a virus or someone is stealing your internet. Reinstall your chipset drivers. However just try unplugging your router and modem and wait a minute see if that helps. Then reinstall your drivers.

192 is the prefix to your local router IP allocation. If the router is set to dynamic , then it will allocate the next available IP address in its allowable range. If the router is set for static IP then you can allocate a local IP manually, but you have to do this for all devices on your network. It sounds like it is dynamic at the moment, also it sounds like the router has already locked some IP addresses for other devices. All these things wont affect the speed, unless your machine is running more than 1 tcp/ip device. This may be causing a conflict, esp if two devices are trying to use the same IP. Check all network connections and there IP's . But try switching off all devices , pc's, net prnters etc . Then reset the router, then restart your pc.

192 ip is a router try connecting w/o useing the router if that fixes the speed issue then you should contact the router manufacturer and ask for help

That's not the problem. That's your internal IP address, assigned by your router. Everything on your internal network has an IP address 192.168.1.???. The modem also has an external, internet, IP address assigned by the ISP. That's the one you use to get to the internet. If you have a few things in your network (computers, printers), it's possible something else grabbed 101 while you were reinstalling. Or the router didn't figure out that it was the same computer and gave it a new address.

your internet speed not depends on the IP address. IP address is a unique address for your system. Internet services provided trough this IP address. if u want to use constant IP address go like this in windows xp os start > network connections >local area connections select properties from general tab choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) select "use the following IP address" enter the IP address Information and click ok and click ok net reconfigure after completing above process and it will provide given ip address
