How to transfer files via Ad Hoc connection?

How to set up ad hoc connection in windows 7?

  • I have a desktop that is connected to the internet via a Ethernet cable to a DSL modem. It also has a wireless adapter. Now, I am trying to get my laptop to connect to the desktop's internet connection. I've set up an ad hoc connection between the two by wireless but I can' access the web. I can join Homegroup, access both of the computers' files but not the internet. I've checked the adapters and the ip to get address automatically but it's not working. How can I share an internet connection between the two?

  • Answer:

If you have shares working you are almost there..... Here is a good forum for you http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-networking/1037-ad-hoc-internet-connection-sharing.html "On 7 you go to control panel->network & internet ->network and sharing center->change adapter settings and right click on the internet adapter (meaning the adapter that pumps internet to the host machine, not the adapter used for the adhoc.)->properties->sharing and tick the relevant box. (allow other users to connect to internet)! It will then reconfigure the adhoc adapter (e.g. your wireless usb or whatever) to have a LAN address, and then you should be able to connect to the adhoc and the net. If not, check your firewall FIRST before blaming windows." That works but you have to enable ICS on the primary adapter!
