How to separate 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signal?

Problems with duel channel 2.4/5ghz router?

  • Here it is. I have this D-link Duel N channel router with simultaneous 2.4ghz and 5ghz broadcasting. All of my devices (3 laptops, 2 phones, 2 Playstation 3's, and a Amazon Kindle) ONLY pick up the 2.4ghz. The 5ghz is turned on, and enabled according to the settings. I would like the Playstation 3's to connect to the 5ghz, for obvious reasons (Online Gaming and Netflix), and would like to be able to switch to 5ghz on a laptop every now and then for downloading. My question is, what do I need to do to get my devices to recolonize my 5ghz channel. I'm very computer savvy, if that helps (Computer Science major), but this wireless is kicking my butt.

  • Answer:

Your devices have to have a 5 Ghz network adapter. Rule in networking, both sides of a connection must support a protocol or technology in order to use that protocol or technology. I believe the PS3 only has a 2.4 Ghz radio in it.

Your devices need a 5Ghz adapter to connect to any 5Ghz wireless...simple as that...
