How do I hookup my printer from desktop to laptop?

How can I share a printer between a XP desktop and a windows 7 laptop?

  • I just got a new laptop with windows 7 and I am trying to get it to share the printer that is on my XP desktop. I have tried many solutions I have found online but none have worked so far. So I think perhaps I am missing something simple. Both computers are connected to the internet via the same modem, the XP desktop is connected via wire and the laptop via wireless internet. I was able to transfer songs from my main XP desktop to the laptop via iTunes, so i know they are communicating, However when i check the network on the win7 machine the XP one does not appear, and when i check the network on the XP machine the win7 laptop does not appear. Some of the things I have tried: *Use XP's network setup wizard. *Make sure both computers have the same work group name. *Disable firewalls. *Make sure the printer (which is on the XP machine) has sharing enabled. My issue seems to mainly be that both computers don't see each other. Once they see each other perhaps actually sharing the printer wont be that hard. Additional details: *The desktop has XP with service pack 3. *My modem is a Thomson 585v7.
