-
I need a header for my research paper, and when I put my last name and a number, it has the same number on all subsequent pages. So on page one is has, for example, Smith 1 and on page two it has Smith 2, and so on and so forth. Please help me to fix this problem! Much appreciated.

Answer:
Don't type the page number. Instead, insert the page number. On the Header & Footer Tools toolbar, go to Header & Footer group and click on the page number icon.

You can go to page setup. Then headers and footers. Then add a header title in the center and on the right you can choose a date or page number.
