Will a different ADSL2+ modem increase my internet speed?
-
I am currently using a Dlink DSL-502T ADSL2+ modem. I have just moved into a new place and was expecting higher speeds (due to the close proximity to the exchange). My current download speed is 7mbps and I was expecting 9-12mbps. Will a differnt ADSL2+ modem help increase my speed? I would want to stream wirelessly to my TV as well and was thinking of purchasing a netgear modem. Any suggestions of a model would be good.

Answer:
Changing your modem will not make any difference at all. Modems can connect you at much higher speed but you are still limited to what your ISP is giving you. Think of it this way. A router can get your device connected as fast as 1 gigabit/sec. when wired or as fast as 300Mbps when wireless. However, does that mean your internet speed will also be that fast? Of course not!
