What's wrong with my laptop's wireless connection?

• My laptop keeps randomly disconnecting itself from our wireless network. It never happened until we got a new modem and I know it's the laptop because I live in an apartment with 3 other laptop users on the same network and it never happens to them. On our old modem we could all be on at once and get lightning fast speeds but now my laptop is rejecting the new network. I deleted the old network from my laptop but it still won't work right. One of my room-mates is studying IT and such and she deleted any useless programs that might interfere with whatever it is Windows uses to connect to wireless networks but still nothing. Please help. I'm at my wit's end with this. My OS is Windows7 and I'm using a Toshiba laptop, in case that makes a difference.

  Is there any interference between your laptop and the wireless router? eg. wireless telephones, televisions, microwaves, etc. These can sometimes cause "packet drops" in the network and therefore cause the wireless router and your computer to drop signal and discontinue communications. If that is clear, check the computers IP settings (go to Start>run> type "cmd">enter>type "ipconfig" and double check that your computers IP address is set to DHCP. If it isn't, the computer and the router may not communicate correctly. Furthermore, check that your computer is receiving a valid IP address (10.0.x.x or 192.168.x.x (where X represents variable numbers)). If you find fault with one of these things, check back here or with google.
