Help with TCP/IP study guide?
-
I am taking a class over TCP/IP and for the final instead of giving us a study guide he gave us a list of questions to study the answers to. Unfortunately, I spent the weekend studying for the final I had yesterday, then I had to go to work and after work I studied for the final I had today, and once I get off work all I have is the hours from 5pm until I go to bed to study for my final exam for my TCP/IP class that is tomorrow morning. Like I said, its not for a grade, it is just to help us study for the final. Any help anyone can give on answering these questions will be greatly appreciated. Here are the questions: 1. What does DHCP deliver? 2. What can DHCP exclude? 3. Does Internet Security IP implementations make it possible to encrypt and protect segments at the Transport layer? 4. What do exterior gateway protocols (EGP) do? 5. In SNMP, an object is identified by what? 6. What does the SNMP community acts as an interface between? 7. What does the Class A network address 127.x.x.x do? 8. Is the IPv6 header variable length? 9. If no DHCP server is present in some broadcast domain, what happens? 10. How does an administrator explicitly assigns an IP address manually by associating a client’s hardware address with a specific IP address to be leased to that client? 11. What does a DHCP client do when it boots up? 12. What packet is sent from the server to the client to indicate the completion of the four-packet DHCP Discovery process? 13. How can you troubleshoot DHCP? 14. What is packet sniffing? 15. What is session hijacking? 16. What is a DOS attack? 17. What are the challenges in automating the routing process? 18. How do Link-state routers meet their neighbors? 19. What does Mobil IP do? 20. Which version of SNMP does not encrypt passwords? 21. What creates and maintains a reliable connection more consistent with NetBIOS session needs? 22. What is a command-line program that returns statistics on NetBIOS?

Answer:
DHCP delivers IP address assignments DHCP can exclude computers (or any network device) not recognized by failing to return an IP.. or by returning an invalid IP ... based on MAC address. depends on what OSI stack you are using - if 7 layer stack, then sure.. you can encrypt at Transport layer.I don't know on the 3 layer stack.. I'd guess yes. I dunno. dunno dunno 127 addresses are loopbacks or bogons. dunno With no DHCP server, IP addresses need to be assigned manually, or network devices don't connect. Pretty much defines what a DHCP server does. Adminstrator adds client to DHCP client list. DHCP client boots up a lot like other machines. Along the way, it broadcasts a packet to request an address lease. not sure - Ack I think too many to list "listening" to packets on a network without changing .. a passive act. an aggressive act - sometimes using MITM attack, where a session cookie is copied for someone else's use. DOS- denial of service. Create so much traffic.. requests without acknowledge.. ping flood, syn floods, or zombie army... overwhelming the target so they cannot do anything except answer the attacker. To the outside, it looks like the victim/target is down, not answering, or ridiculously slow. efficiency, security, accuracy.. pretty much the same as any business challenge. dunno donno donno donno nbtstat.. and others
