How Can I Remotely Connect to My Work PC from Home?

  • Currently we are able to connect remotely to our own desktops as long as we're in the building and on the network. Increasingly I find myself in a position where my responsibilities are great and the time allotted to complete them is minimal. I just want to be able to connect to my PC at work from my PC at home so I can get some stuff done, spend time with the family and appease the boss. I'm not particularly technologically savvy but I can hold my own and I know my way around the basic stuff and I set up my own network at home. With some step by step instructions, I can figure something out. Unfortunately only certain people are "allowed" to connect remotely and I'm not on the list because I'm at the bottom of the totem pole getting pissed on by Sr Managemt. I have no nefarious intent, I just want to cover my *** and do my job until a better job comes along. I know I'm able to connect remotely from my home PC and my work PC but since they're on different networks and I can't exactly ask IT to help me, I don't know where to start. Our IT Department is a bunch of Jack holes, nice guys but way underpaid and understaffed, not all that bright or capable and always out to cover their own asses first and foremost. Can somebody give me some help on how to accomplish my goal?

    Take the IT guys to lunch. Otherwise, your out of luck and have to stick around the office later to do your work.

You can set a Terminal Services Client with your work PC. There's a tool I like most, that's "teamviewer", it,s very useful for remote control, desktop sharing, and file transfer between computers.
