Can I connect the internet to a switch,and from there to my pc and router?So I can bypass the router?

I want to bypass the router, since my father won't let me open ports on it, so I can't have a minecraft server -_- Now, can I connect the internet to a switch, and one cable goes from the switch to my pc, and one cable to the router? So I go around the router,and don't have to open ports on our router?

Specify the MAKE && MODEL of the router and switch. = From the description, the 'router' is a modem. - IF so, then the modem is cannot be bypassed.

No. You will totally stop the connection. Why do you think they use routers? ALL machines on a network MUST go through a router.

You can connect strait from the switch to the pc. The switch kind of acts like a splitter in a sense. The internet cable would plug into any of the ports on the switch and then from there to anything else you want. So the answer is yes. Good luck mate but I'm guessing your father will notice the switch in no time flat.

The modem usually only supports one device and one ip. So the switch will work but only one device on the switch will work, the router or your pc. No.
