Can Information on the internet be both reliable and accessible?

What information can someone obtain from me if he logs packets when I use the internet?

  • I am wondering if personal information can be obtained from packets, like IP addresses, which websites I was using and what information I sent and received from those websites. Is all of that contained in packets? What other information can be gotten from packets?

  • Answer:

the packets contain every bit of information sent between your computer and the internet. whether or not someone can make sense of this and reassemble the packets into something meaningful depends on their skills. some information is quite simple to obtain, other not so much. very easy to obtain the web sites you went to, not so easy to obtain what you may have typed into fields on a web page (but certainly still possible). SSL web sites and other encrypted content would be most difficult to decode.
