Network wireless laptop?

Laptop won't connect to wireless network?

• So I got wireless high speed internet today, and all computers but my laptop will connect to it. Basically the problem is that the network is set as an unidentified network and it wont change to a private network. I tried the customize option and it wont let me rename the network and if i set it to private it immediately changes back to public. It says the signal is excellent and my laptop is around two years old so there shouldnt be a problem with it. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the network and restarting my laptop. The internet is working on my mom's computer my wii my sisters laptop (which is a lot older than mine) and my iPod but not my laptop. My laptop connects to other networks without complications. Is it because of Hughes Net? thats what we got. My laptop is a Compaq Windows Vista. So what can I do to make it work?

  Im kinda having the same problem but a little different. Through my experience so far I may have an answer for you. First you must ensure that if you have a wireless on/off button it is turned on. If that is not the issue, right click on your computer icon on the bottom right hand portion of your screen. Select "Network and sharing center". From there go to "manage wireless networks". Right click on your network which you have set up and select "Properties". Then select the security tab on the new window. From there you should see "Security Type" and "Encryption Type". Now, go through these steps on your other computer that has a connection and make sure they match yours. If you want to give your network a name you need to access your wireless router to change the settings. From there you can also make it secured. Hope this helps.
