How do i just fix the homegroup settings on my laptop so that i can connect with wifi from a home?

    That doesn't really have anything to do with your homegroup settings. When you are at your mother in laws house or whatever just click the little wireless icon in the bottom right corner of your screen and select "connect to a network" (might not be the exact wording). When you click it, all the wifi hotspots in range will be listed. Click on the one that belongs to your mom or whoever, enter the password if it asks, and hit "connect". That's all you need to do. ADDITION: Have you checked to make sure you don't have any firewall programs running on your machine that may be blocking your connection?
