How can i find out other people's IP address?
-
OK it sounds more suspect than it is. I guess most people give away their IP address whenever they go onto a website. But that suggests that an IP address doesn't give enough access to your computer to allow anybody to do anything illegal otherwise you wouldn't ever go to a website you didn't know. Therefore if people can easily set up a website to gain basic personal information and your IP address, then there must be an easier way to track down any IP address. Maybe your next door neigbour's for example? Surely if I could set up a website to gain access to your IP and personal details then finding your neighbour's IP address should be as easy finding their phone number from the phone book?

Answer:
your pc only has an IP address if it connects directly to the internet via a modem If you connect via a router then your router has an ip address(so it and therefore you can be traced via your ISP) but you only have a local IP address allocated by your router The only IP address any website sees is your router IP address. Your router handles all traffic between the web site and your computer. As far as the network is concerned the only thing they can "see" is your router, your pc is invisible Also the IP address only goes back as far as the ISP and a general area, They can trace the specific location of that IP address but it does require some additional info that only they possess. It cannot be done automatically or without their input. So I dont know where you get the idea anybody could get personal info just by knowing your ip address (or rather the IP address of your router) They could try hacking the router to gain access to individual pcs on the router network, but thats another story. (also torrent downloads are another story)

Well, you could send him/her a email but to trace it you have to have an account on big string.com . If you are in the same network then you could look at your network map too.

For most people, an IP address is dynamically assigned by the ISP and has a typical lifespan of 24 hours. Logging off the internet then logging on again can result in a different address being assigned. Contrary to the usual depictions in movies and TV programs, an IP address will usually only be resolved to an ISP's server, not to an individual. For example, many sites will report my location as Hamilton, New Zealand, which is the location of a Telecom server about 100 km away.
You wont be able to find out any information from his IP address. Unless of course you want to find out where his ISP is located.
