How to connect to a wireless internet connection using my PC?

Internet connection setup to PC with USB. Can I connect Wireless Router to Modem with Ethernet?

  • My internet was initially connected to a PC through the USB port on the modem. I want to add a wireless router using the Ethernet port on the modem, however, I am not able to connect to the internet. I can't even directly connect to the internet if I plug the Ethernet cable from the modem to my laptop. The wireless router also cannot connect to the internet when hooked up to the modem's Ethernet port. Is it possible that now that the connection was originally made with USB, I can't use the Ethernet port on the modem?

  • Answer:

No. Most routers/modems use the ethernet port as the primary way to connect. USB is a slower method and isn't really practiced unless the computer doesn't have an ethernet port. I am sure it is possible to configure your equipment to use the Ethernet port, but you will need to consult with the documentation of your Modem/Router to figure out how. If no documentation was included or the equipment came from your Internet provider, you should contact their technical support department and have them guide you through the process.
