ODBC DSN is not created using SQL Server name but when i give IP address of Server,it is created, why?

  • In a system win xp,SP2,when i create a ODBC DSN,in place of Server name, when i give the name of MS-SQLserver,it show "server not found",but when i give IP address of that server,DSN was created. But in my application,it give negative impact. So why it happened?Any solutions?

  • Answer:

Try ping to that server uing server name from a command prompt. eg: ping <servername> Check whether the ping request is going to the same ip. If not fluch and re-register your DNS (ipconfig /flushdns) (ipconfig /registerdns)
