How do I get a Linksys WRT60N Router to allow access to my IP Camera and Storage option?
-
I just bought a Linksys WRT610N router to replace my old WRT54GS. The router works well enough, so far. My internet connections seem faster. But try as I may, I cannot get this router to allow remote access to my IP camera, nor can I get the router to allow access to the external hard drive attached to the router's USB port. I've tried all settings (repeatedly over several days), and so far, no luck. I can access the router remotely with no problem, so it's working as far as allowing remote access. But it simply refuses to allow me to access the camera. I can access the camera with no problem with my computers that are part of my network. The camera is a Trendnet 410W, and is connected to the network via wireless. The other problem I'm having is being able to access the external hard drive attached to the router. The router sees the drive, and allows me to choose which folders are available to the network. But the drive is not accessable from the network or remotely. I've tried Cisco's so-called 'Award Winning' tech support, but they are absolutely useless. The only 'award' I'd give them is 'World's Most Pathetic." Any ideas out there??

Answer:
Yes, first of all do you know what ports does your camera uses, I mean TCP or UDP port #. Unless there is a special software that you install in your computer??? If that is the case well you will have to enable remote desktop on that computer and make a port forwarding rule for port 3389 in your router. So in your router you will have a port forwarding rule that says: "Whenever there is an incoming traffic from the internet with port 3389, then forward it to this computer's IP address. There are many ways to see a camera remotly, so what is the method to see your cameras from your internal network??? Now, about your hard drive. How is your hard drive advertised in your network, what is the IP address that is using. I assume that it will be using your routers IP address, but it might not. So first of all you need to know what is the IP address that hard drive has. Once you know that the you go to Start, then click on run and type \\Hard_Drive_IP_Address replace that with the actual hard drive IP address, don't forget to put \\
