  • Why does my internet browser keep freezing up. I have removed all spyware and scanned it it for viruses and there aren't any.

  • Answer:

Clear your cookies and cache. It's more likely an issue with your connection. Maybe there are too many programs trying to use your line, or there are more than your own computer using the same broadband pipe. Try a different browser first to see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, it might be time to roll back IE and then update it again from scratch. If it does, you'll have to investigate the above.

Probably had some registry values messed up by the spyware. Try removing and reloading the browser program and see if that fixes the problem. I had to reformat my computer recently for a similar problem.

Well, you did not specify what kind of browser you are using, but if it is IE, I would recommend a complete deinstall\reinstall if the problem persists. But you should still clear cache and history, check for heavy fragmentation, and make sure you are not running multiple instances of IE (task manager, processes, then kill all IE processes and start over). Then I would reinvestigate your malware issues. Depending on how you found and removed the malware, you may still have issues. I recommend turning off all pop-ups (IE, tools, popup blocker) to stop new malware from being installed. Also, it is very important that you NOT visit sites that are prone to malware (porno being one). If you surf to satisfy your earthly lusts, your system may pay the price. I recommend two pieces of spyware removal software: Adaware and Spybot: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ They both work well, but I prefer to run them back-to-back when a machine is heavily "infected" with malware (or suffering from unusual slowness). They compliment each other. Download and run both of these. You might be surprised as to what you find.

Download and run HiJackThis... You can get it here---> http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html?tag=lst-0-1 When you run this program, look for anything that starts with BHO (Browser Helper Object) and remove what is not necessary. A good rule of thumb: If it doesn't have a file name or has a lack of info, get rid of it. Now be careful!! This program is powerful in the way that it can stop certain "non-target" programs from functioning. If you need help, feel free to email [email protected]

Keep your own Anti-virus up to date, and check the status regularly. Get and update several Anti-spyware solutions. I use AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destroy. I use the free versions from http://www.download.com Update and run these regularly. Especially IMMEDIATELY after an upexpected pop-up. Download and install FireFox free from http://www.mozilla.com This is a browser that is safer to use than IE. Use this for general surfing and google searching. Only use IE when you MUST have IE, such as Windows Updates. If you have Windows XP with SP2, activate the Windows firewall and check the status. If you don't, get Zone Alarm the free version from http://www.zonelabs.com Take these steps to keep your computer ALIVE.
