How do I change my WiFi SSID name and add a password?

Is it illegal to change neighbors wifi name?

  • my friend thought it would be funny to change the neighbors unlocked wifi through 192.168.1.1 and typing the default password. Then he changed the ssid name to sharing is caring. If my neighbour finds out it was me does he have the right to press charges?

  • Answer:

Yeah it is illegal. You aren't allowed to connect to a random wifi network unless the owner has allowed you or it specifically says it's a public network

if your neighbor finds out, yes, you can get in trouble as it is illegal to even connect to someone else's connection, unless it is an official public access site. your neighbor should just set it as secure next time, and set up a password him/her self. its the only way to keep most people from using their wifi. i don't thing your neighbor will press charges though, he might not even know who did it. just be cautious

omggg,YES. you can get in SERIOUS trouble

YES DEFF .... plus it would be little stupid on your if you are using the wireless because chances are they will notice and call up their service provider and their service provider will tell them how to protect it and there goes your internet :P

haha I'm not sure I would think not considering his Wifi is unlocked. But it just goes to show you to Lock your WiFi and to make sure you don't leave the password as the default password. Unless you also want to be hacked and have you WiFi named changed lol.

Probably, but i doubt anyone will care. Generally if it's not yours you're not allowed to touch it, so if he knew a judge and could trace it to you then maybe you'd hear about it, but i'm not sure the police would even respond to that call.

Yes it is. You aren't suppose to change any ones WIFI only if they said you could. Might want to tell your neighbor that your friend changed it so they don't press chargers. Good luck!

I think so! I wouldn't do that if I were you! That doesn't that you neighbor is not a techy person you can play with their stuff.
