  • Answer:

There is quite a bit to building a PBX system for your home... however this program is probably the leading PBX system for what your looking to do. http://www.asterisk.org/ This is the software, you can poke around and read up about it to give you the hardware requirements. Not sure what you are trying to build, but the option of creating your own VoIP solution might work better? Just something to think about perhaps. Edit: To try to answer the questions -- 1) Asterix is free, the hardware will cost (not sure how much though sorry) 2) http://www.trixbox.org/ --a prebuilt Asterix box 3) You would need the software and hardware (ie, computer to run PBX software which also controls the phones etc) 4) Compatible w/ OS X? Sorta as Asterix is Linux based so you might be able to (or use the new VMWare software called Fusion to build a virtual Linux computer to run the software -- awesome stuff) 5) To get a "land line" you would need to contact your phone company and say you'd like a phone line (land line is just another way of saying phone line -- as opposed to a wireless cell phone or VoIP).
