How to get my wireless internet to connect with Ubuntu?
-
Okay, so here is the situation. I just installed ubuntu on my laptop, but I really don't know anything about computers and ubuntu. Right now i'm having the problem that when i look to connect to a network, there's nothing there in the wireless connections box. We have a family computer, and we have linksys and i know it works, because my computer used the connection fine before ubuntu. So i've looked around and i think i need to use something about ndiswrapper? but it keeps talking about "command terminals" and entering codes, and i really don't know what it's talking about. How do i get to a "terminal" so i can put the code in? i just need as much help as i can get :/ thanks

If memory serves me, Terminal should be at either : Applications menu -> Accessories -> Terminal or Applications menu -> System -> Terminal.

after installing the ubuntu, did you open the update manager for initial update ? suppose to happen within 24 hrs after installing the cd live after installing the ubuntu, the very first thing ubuntu will do is give you access to internet, so it means, wi-fi suppose to work. if not , try this.. on upper panel, right click the 4 bar icon or the computer icon, mark check 'enable networking' and 'enable wireless' repeat check 'edit connections' click 'wireless' then 'edit' enter ssid and password for wired connection, connect ethernet cable." you should see "auto etho" did you check your laptop wi-fi signal compatibility to router ? b/g/n wi-fi ? if your ubuntu laptop is using "b" and your router is 'g' and your family computer is 'g'. naturally, your laptops can not connect, not ubuntu problem but compatibility of router to your laptop ..only your family computer can connect to router.. try to replace your router with b/g/n signal.. edimax br-6225n is a good router. works on most type of wi-fi signal when got it working, go to system>administration>update manager click 'check' then 'install updates' other concern, go to 'launchpad.net' or type on search 'question ubuntu' it will then guide you to linux question , expect e-mails from linux community in 24 hrs
