Why is my work email so unbelieveably slow?
-
It is not just me or my computer, everybody in the office is always complaining about how slow our email is. It has been this way for about 6 months. It is synced through outlook. There are frequent crashes. At times is has taken about 1 minute to even pull up a new window to compose an email. Opening emails that aren't graphic heavy and don't have attachments take a long time to come up. Highlighting one email to go to another so you can double click to open takes a long time. I know virtually nothing about computers and networks and servers etc. I am guessing we most likely need a new server or a larger server??? Do you think our "Snail Email" Is the companies fault for skimping on equipment or our IT people for not cleaning it or something? I don't know how many employees my company has I would say there are about 125 in our office and maybe 300 nationwide. I'm pretty sure the servers are here in our building. I don't know if they are only for us, or nationwide. I am just clueless.

Answer:
Mail servers are very complicated to run, even for computing technology; at some places, they have technicians who do little else but keep the mail servers running. It could a process that is stuck in a loop somewhere, slowing things down, or maybe an installed anti-virus program is the source. Or, it could be a hardware problem. I'm in a smaller group than yours, and we had a similar slow down that ended up being how the mail was routed, something a prior technician had done, and no one knows why. So, I can't really pinpoint your problem (maybe your IT staff can't either - I doubt they like slow email either) but the resolution is the same - complain until it gets fixed.

Well it might be overfilled with letter it's capacity. Also it can be secondary/minor program (maybe you're downloading something or playing games in the background) which can slow all the computer job. And third, - it can be virus, which slows the email or the whole computer job.

Maybe you're company needs to update you're system. It could be due to too much virus protection. Or maybe you all send emails that have too much data in them b/c that will slow email down. You may need to delete your old emails in your trash box, inbox, and outbox. It can slow down email too.

100 and 1 things that could be causing this. Not much YOU can do other than report the issue to the correct people, your boss, a superviser, a site director, a helpdesk system, an IT guy on site, ect...
