If you click an attachment in the email and the computer responds with no file association, it means one of several things. First, and most likely, you do not have the program(s) necessary for activating that attachment on your computer. Secondly, the email program could have scrambled the attachment type as some sort of virus protection and you have to manually adjust it. Finally, the attachment for whatever reason might not have a suffix, or lost it, and the computer is unable to determine what kind of file it is. As far as Windows is concerned, gone are the days when you have to manually assign the file associations in your computer for a file to be read by the computer. Nowadays you are most likely to intervene when two or more competing programs are trying to take over the handling of a certain file, like an image file being read my multiple image editors. So, for example, if someone sends you a PowerPoint file as an attachment, and you do not have the PowerPoint program or the free PowerPoint reader, you cannot read the program cleanly. As I like to say with other questions, you could get an answer tailored exactly to your problem if you would have specified the type of attachment that was causing the problem. By looking at the last 3-4 letters after the dot, we an tell you what program you are missing. And in the case that the program is not missing, we could have fun determining what bizarre thing was happening in your case. Oops, but to answer your question exactly, go to your Windows Explorer, click on tools at the top, and then folder options. A dialog box with several tabs will pop up. Click on file types. All your file association will appear here. This is also where you can set them, but I would check the Internet on this subject for further detailed instructions.
