Is it possible to reset a broadband router?

  • Is it possible to reset a router for broadband if it is corrupted? A red light keeps coming up on my router which means the Internet connection has failed. Unfotunately this happens all the time at the moment. I have a feeling there may be a problem with the router and that it may be corrupted. Is there a reset button on routers? Thank you.

I assume that your router is built into the broadband modem? Call the broadband service provider. They should be able to test your lines and give you instructions for resetting. If the router is separate from the broadband modem, look at the manufacturer's website or the owners manual for resetting (typically a procedure that includes powering off then on holding a paper clip in a small switch on the back) This WILL erase your WiFi settings, log in keys, and router password, so you will have to set it up again from scratch as well as resetting the pass keys on the wireless devices you have.

Generally, a pin-hole "reset" button is available on the back of the router! You may however perform a soft-reset (turning off and turning it on again) to check if the problem is resolved.

On the back of router is an on/off switch, try and see if yours does 2 and just turn it off then on again. Failing that disconnet your router from the phone line and mains power and then reconnect it again. If you are still having problems it would be best to contact your broadband provider

yes you can reset by a reset button , sometimes on the back or side. usually a little hole big enough to get a biro tip in . have you also tried removing mains for a minute sometimes that resets them. bbart

Hello, Try unplugging it for a minute and that should work. If it dont work then call your ISP before you do anything.

Yes there is. It should be marked reset and will be on the side at the bottom in the case of a BT Home Hub.

there is a recessed reset button on the back, hold it in for more than 6 seconds and it will reset the router to defaults
