Why does my laptop keep losing the internet connection?

Losing Connection Problem Belkin N150?

  • I purchased a Belkin N150 Basic Router a week ago to replace my Aztech HW550-3G Router. I installed Belkin and started to work fine on my desktop computer through cabled connection. I also have two laptop connected to the router via wireless. Then after couple of hours the internet keep losing connection to my wireless enabled laptop. I was having to repair connection for it to connect to internet but then would keep disconnecting. But my desktop internet connection is working fine. I don't have any issue with the ISP. The only problem is the wireless laptop that keep on losing connection to the Belkin router. I have also put laptop in close proximity to router but still problems. Any ideas please?

  • Answer:

it is possible that the wireless card in your laptop is wearing out. if it is an internal one (came with the laptop), you should be made aware that the internal wireless cards are often not as powerful as an external one. wireless has reliability issues to begin with (over wired). you've got a new router. time for a new wireless card (just disable or physically remove the old one). the KEY is to keep both the router AND the receiving antenna as high up as possible (when in different rooms). wireless signals don't like to have to go thru objects and obstructions and walls, so the higher up, the fewer interruptions you get. the N300 does a better job with transmitting wireless than the N150. even so, if you have a bad wireless card in your laptop, your signal is bound to cut out occasionally. you might also check the connection to the wires running from your internal card. they may have come loose.

I have the same router, but i have it connected to 2 computers via the lan cables. I have the same problems, and have spent days with Belkin support. I would recommend a different brand of router, as Belkin routers are poorly made, they overheat and their firmware is terrible. My router has lost connection twice while writing this, and as soon as i save up, i'm getting a different one.
