How do I increase my download speed for utorrent 2.0, I have MTNL connection?(Read the whole description)?

  • Hi, I'm from Mumbai, and I use an MTNL connection, My plan is Triband Unlimited Download Rs.999, 512 Kbps Speed, but my download speed in utorrent 2.0 does not go above 20 Kbps, please tell me how to increase it. The Test at speedtest.net tells me that my download speed should be about 130 Kbps, but, even for torrents having more tha 1000 Seeds and Peers, download speed does not go above 20 Kbps, please help!

    The answer to your question is very simple. Actually you are Downloading with the Very good speed for your connection. When the Service Providers tell you that they are giving you 512 Kbps connection, They mean approximately 256 Kbps upload + 256 Kbps Download. Here THEIR Kbps mean Kilo BITS per second. While Normally we measure our speed in Kilo BYTES per second. They Usually do this because when you express the speed in kilobits per second, it seems very high speed and attracts customers, because 8 kilobits per second means a download speed of only 1 kilobyte per second. And even the speed check sites give their speed in kilo bits per second. So to get your Actual speed generally you have to divide the value by 8. To get the difference You have to notice carefully a small 'b' as in Kbps means bits and a 'B' as in KBps means bytes. This will help you differentiate the actual speed. Hope I helped :-)

are your ports forwarded properly? is there a little green tick on the bottom bar of the program? also limit your upload speed to 75% of its max otherwise your download wont be as fast http://portforward.com/ use that site to help you forward your ports if you dont have upnp port forwarding enabled

follow this link http://half-open.com/download_en.htm and download the patch. Your AV software may give you a false positive meaning that it may think it is a virus but it is not. Just add it to your exclusion list. I use AVG and it asks me to proceed or not. Anyway after you get the patch close all programs even Utorrent. Run the patch ans set the number to no more than 60. Now you have to tell Utorrent you did this. Open Utorrent and click options/preferences and go to advanced and scroll to max half open and set the value to the number you set on the patch. Close everything again and go here http://www.speedtest.net/ and before you run test go to settings and change megabytes to kilobytes then run test. When you get results write down your upload speed down and go to this site http://infinite-source.de/az/az-calc.html and enter the number you wrote down and it will calculate for you what to set in options in Utorrent. Note: the calculator is for Azeurus but will work. With these settings and if seed/peer ratio is good I can get speeds between 300Kb and 1.5MB

Keep in mind that with torrents, you are downloading from other users and that their internet connection can be slow. When downloading torrents, you can only connect to a limited amount of other users at once.

I hope these things will work. 1. Try to add some 4 or more torrent files which have better seeds and peers and see the speed. 2, Better close other tabs like Youtube streaming. they will affect your torrent speed. 3, I am using utorrent 1.8.4 version.. May be that is the cause. 4. see whether your net is used my some other PCs.. If you find these points helpful, please choose it as a Best answer..

MTNL advertises its speeds in bits (b) and speedtest.net shows speeds in bits at default. uTorrent shows speeds in bytes (B). 8b = 1B so 512kb/s = 64kB/s You can adjust settings at speedtest.net to show results in kilobytes.
