Is there a way to find out the password for your wireless connection?
-
My dad is trying to hookup our wii to the internet and he needs the password for our wireless internet connection, but no one knows it. The Geek Squad guy set it up and I don't know where he wrote it down. So is there a way to find out that password? I tried to copy it from my laptop (when I use it, I don't have to put it in because it is automatically there), but it wouldn't copy. Is there another way? Please help! Thanks =]

This happens for me too sometimes. What i had to do was reset my router. There should be a reset password on the back that you can hit in with a pen or pencil tip. Then just put in your disc that came with your router and go through the setup process again and this time write down the password somewhere. or just go to internet explorer and type in your router's default Ip address. You will have to type this new network key into your computer all over again. but that only takes a few minutes. That key is the one you will put in ur wii too. Some common router ip addresses are Netgear:192.168.0.1 Linksys:192.168.1.1 Dlink: 192.168.0.1 Trendnet:192.168.10.1 or 192.168.1.1

since its your network you could use Wireshark to get it, it "sniffs" the network basically it reroutes all your network traffic through that program and after so long it gets the password. If its wep it would only take like 30 mins

I presume this is the wireless preshare key of your router or the user name and password to log onto your router. If you have lost the password to log onto router, you are out of luck getting the password. If you need the preshare key and the router can be accessed by CLI the "show run" CLI command will provide it. However most low end household routers are not CLI accessible. If nothing else helps, you can restore the router to factory default and reconfigure it from scratch. Next time document and keep the documentation.

well on your computer, you can just go to the command prompt. (start> Run> Cmd(command(. A black box appears. Type ipconfig. you get the ip address, subnet mask and Default Gateway. Type that Default gateway into the address bar of your Internet explorer or browser. Will ask for authentication. Usually the username & password is written on the back of the router( Just turn it upside down). You will be directed to the Router setting. Check the w/l settings. You will find the complete info including the w.l n/w name (SSID) and the security enabled along with the password.

you cannot really the password since it already on the system, the least thing you can do is to call your ISP to have the password change in order for you to hook-up your wii.and for you to have the a copy as well of your password
