How to change my IP autmatically?

Help, how can i change my IP address in Windows 7?

  • Okay here is what i tried (these don't work for me, and my IP address never changed when i tried these methods) I clicked Start and then typed in the Search field, cmd Right clicked on cmd.exe and then chose Run as Administrator Typed ipconfig /release then i typed ipconfig /renew My IP address didn't change afterwards. It still stayed the same The second method i did was I clicked Start and then went to Control Panel I left clicked on Network and Internet and then chose Network and Sharing Center On the left side i chose Change adapter settings I right clicked on my network card and from the drop-down chose Properties Under the Networking tab I chose Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then clicked on Properties In the next window i had the option between "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" and "Use the following IP Address" I selected "Use the following IP address" and then typed in random numbers in the IP address box and then i clicked the Subnet Mask Box which just automatically gave me random numbers, and then i clicked OK. I noticed i had lost Internet Connection, so i went back on the Properties window and then I selected "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" I finally clicked on OK and my IP address should've changed but it did not sadly. But i got internet connection back however. I did not try the MAC Clone Address yet, i am afraid of doing this method because i am worried this will screw up my computer. And when i was reading the instructions to clone my MAC address it told me to reset my router which i do not know how to do. I have a Linksys Wireless G Broadband router by the way. Is there any other way to change my IP address?

  • Answer:

Doing ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew will not change your ip address, so what you experienced is correct. Entering random numbers in your IP properties, and then changing back to "Obtain Automatically" will also not change your ip address, so that's fine as well. It sound slike you've gotten lots of bad advice thus far, I'll try to fix that. If you're connected to a router, then you actually have two ip address, LAN and WAN. Your LAN ip address is the ip address you see on your computer when you run the ipconfig command. Your WAN ip address is the ip address that your router was given from your ISP. The correct method to change your ip address depends on which one you want to change. By going to TCPIPv4 Properties and choosing "Use the Following" you will be changing your LAN address. If you want to change your WAN address, then you need to log into your router and change, or "spoof" its mac address. Find the page that allows you to do this, and change just one digit (change an A to a B, or a 3 to a 4, for example). After making this change, you will need to restart the router and your modem. To restart them, just disconnect the power cable for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. Changing the MAC address of your router is no big deal, it doesnt hurt or change the functionality of the router at all, and has absolutely no effect on your computer. I change my MAC address monthly on my Linksys router, with Comcast as my ISP, and this always gets me a new ip address, as long as I change to a MAC address that I havent used before.

what exactly are you trying to do? Spoof your ip? You can't use random numbers for an ip. the reason ipconfig/release/renew didn't change your ip is because your ip is functioning. Are you trying to get a static ip? need more info as to your purpose
