How can I connect my laptop to internet IF?

Ok my laptop has built - in wireless LAN. But the problem is I don't have a wireless router! I have one of those dsl routers but it doesn't have an antennea and it doesn't have what a wireless router has, so I don't know if its a wireless router or not!! My moms laptop is connected by an ethernet cable to one of those cable modems But I don't want that I want wireless internet. Is there anyway I could connect my laptop with that modem and have wiresless internet or? Help!!

Answer:
Your laptop should have an app to see any wifi access points nearby. Need more info about your laptop and router, since some routers do indeed have wifi, but with a built in, enclosed antenna.
