Windows explorer stopped working in vista?

Windows explorer has stopped working in VISTA Home Basic?

  • Hi, I have a pirated version of Vista installed on my PC. It was working fine till last 6 mths. From yesterday, I continuously get the message "Windows explorer has stopped working" and then "Windows explorer is restarting" I checked the event logs, and found the below mentioned error "Faulting application Explorer.EXE, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e01da5, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e037dd, exception code 0xc0000096, fault offset 0x000c9bc1, process id 0xc50, application start time 0x01ca47e05804ff50." Any suggestions (except formating the PC) will be appreciated

  • Answer:

if you have vista OS CD then run recovery from there... it is not a brig problem only it is a virus attack...even xp also faces same problem. use malwarebytes and Avast anti virus to do the scanning ...both are free....download from www.download.com And always have dual boot system with linux (Ubuntu) as your other choice, Ubuntu 9.04 is free, simple to install and easy to use.... requires little knowledge or time in knowing what is what.... now the latest release ubuntu 9.10 coming out by the end of this month.
