HELP! Computer Will Not Run!?

Help! My computer won't run. It goes to the Windows XP loading stage, but then it stops at a blue screen and it says: "STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \systemRoot\system32\config\SOFTWARE or its log or a alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable. Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance." Everything I've try does the exact same thing. HELP PLEASE!

You may need to reinstall the Operating System,but you may be able to repair from the OS disk look here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545. If you're under warranty call your manufacturer.

It sounds like you need to reinstall windows. Find the CD in which you received when you purchased your computer to boot your computer with. That CD should replace the registry file that is missing. This has happened to me before. Some previous programs you installed may need to be reinstalled when you reinstall windows. The rest of your information should be safe during installation. If that doesn't work I don't know what to tell you.

you have 3 options: 1. reformat the computer by sticking in the master disc your computer came with when bought, or the windows OS you purchased. 2. if it was me and I had important files on the harddrive. I'd run out to the store and buy another harddrive. install it, make it the master drive, and turn the one having problems into the slave. format the new harddrive with windows OS. n then just start copying everything important from the other harddrive, n then delete it altogether, and use it as a backup drive. 3. take it to a professional.

Looking at the root you've posted, it seems that something has deleted one of the crucial system files - be it you, someone else or a virus. Sure, you could go and get technical support, but it's easier just to re-install Windows...

Try to boot up from your OS disk (if you don't have one, see if you can borrow one). Your Kernal sounds corrupted by a virus or a fault in your hard drive. If you can get a disc to respond, you may be able to run the CHKDSK utility. The idea of replacing your hard drive is also an option. You can turn your existing hard drive into mass storage and try and recover any files you need. I have had problems a couple but I haven't lost any data.
