Will this file play well on my 19 inch tv with a Western Digital Media player & hard drive?
-
Video Details: ---x264 Codec ---640 x 480 ---1200 kbps ---1.33 Aspect ---23.976 fps I have a 19 inch TV, this Element FLX-1910: http://www.retrevo.com/support/Element-FLX-1910-TVs-manual/id/4540dj093/t/2/ And this is the media player i'm getting: http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-WD-Media-Player/dp/B001JZFQU4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256324187&sr=1-2 I hope that this question will help answer a larger one, because i'm really bad at understanding tech specs. I want to know if there is any component of the video info for that file that means it won't play well on my tv (ie: screen size, resolution, grainy quality or whatever). If so, what's a more ballpark estimate of what files i should be looking for? What's an "average" video quality? What about 720p, 1080p or dvdrip? I'm trying to figure out what the standard specifications and filetypes i should be picking as i build my digital movie collection... considering the tv i have, what media (and stats for that media) would be out of the question and which ones will play best?

Answer:
That file should play fine. The video seems to be in PAL format, but the media player will play both PAL or NTSF. As for the quality, the media player supports up to 1080p, which is great for a 19 inch display. Be careful though that you don't get 1080i rather than 1080p, digital usually uses progressive scan lines as opposed to interlaced. The older Cathode ray television sets (the larger ones, not flat) use interlace, but since it is an LCD display, you need progressive to get the best quality. Plus displaying interlace video on a digital display turns out terrible. Also, mkv files are supported by that player, as well as most others, so there should be very little problems with compatibility. Hope that helps.
