Is a DVD-RW disk different from a DVD-RAM disk?

I cannot drag n drop onto a dvd+r disk...HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GSA-H21N?

  • I recently replaced my cdrw with a dvdrw. I can still drag n drop files onto a cdr/rw disk as usual but when I insert a dvd+/-r disk the option to "write these files to cd" disappears and it states the disk has no free space. Nero works for this function but i want to know if XP should allow me to do this also as with a cdrw. (XP home)

  • Answer:

ofcourse you cant. windows xp come with internal cd burning software, but that's all, to burn dvd in xp, you need another burning software like nero or sonic. if you use vista, it came with dvd burning software

Other answers

Continuing falconsport's answer, Windows XP will only allow you to drag-and-drop to CD, hence the "write these files to CD" option. I had the same problem until I used Nero for burning all my discs. As for Windows Vista, I wouldn't be sure as yet.
