How can I use my second HDD as just storage?

How can i delete everything on a HDD and use it for extra storage?

  • I have a 40gb HDD but i want to delete everything on it and just use it to store other stuff in it. My main HDD already has my OS but i want this one to be supplemental.

  • Answer:

After you physically install the hard drive(btw it really doesnt matter if you install it as slave or master - it matters how you set you BIOS to boot your computer) Right click "MY COMPUTER" in the drop down list click "MANAGE" in the left hand list of tasks click "DISK MANAGEMENT" On the right hand side you will have an uppper and lower section - go to the lower section and locate the newly installed HDD (Disk 0 or 1-if you have not named this Disk check the size) Right click in the white area for the HDD your want to Format - in the drop down list click "FORMAT" and let the Operating system do it's work. Now should be all set

Format it from WITHIN Windows XP. If you've already done a full format (the same way you install Windows XP), then just boot to Windows, and go to the Start button, then click on My Computer, then right-click on the drive, and select Format. Once it's finished, it's ready for storing anything you have to store on it.
