Why is my display messed up?

How to fix a PC's display from getting messed up when a wireless PCI adapter is installed?

  • I installed the adapter, booted the computer, inserted the CD when it needed drivers to complete the installation, then the monitor went blank. It still had a green light, so it didn't go into standby or sleep mode with an orange light, so it must have been getting something for a signal. I then unplugged the computer, removed the adapter, rebooted, & the computer completed the software/driver installation without the hardware. Then I shut it down, re-installed the adapter, & when it got to the familiar Windows XP logo & the scrolling progress bar the monitor just had several copies of the progress bar stacked on each other. When I can get another computer on the network I'm going to try to use RealVNC to try to access the affected computer remotely on the off chance that that problem has more to do with sending video out than the display itself, allowing me to see what's supposed to be display & use the computer to fix the problem.

- Start your comp in safe mode by holding or repeatedly pressing the F8 key when the comp starts.(sometimes F5) then select "start in safe mode" - When its booted up go into control panel and un-install everything that you installed previously(software, drivers .ect ) - Restart - Everything should be OK! Hope this helps!

yeh dude

Make sure it doesn't disable any of the PCI or PCIe slots.
