How do I get my computer out of safe mode?

How do I defrag my computer in safe mode? How do I get to safe mode in the first place?

  • my computer is real old and I have been using windows Me for many years. I have optimum online and it runs pretty fast for a dinosaur, but today it is running slower than slow. Thanks

    Restart your computer and repeatedly press F8 as it begins, should take you to a menu asking if you want to start in safe mode, or it may take you directly to safe mode (not sure-- never used Windows ME). from there, click on start, system tools, defragment (so it is in XP, agian, not sure in ME, but very similar I assume)

To get into Windows 98 / ME Safe Mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 key" on the top of your keyboard or press and hold the left or right Ctrl key as the computer is booting. If done properly you should get into the "Windows 98 / ME Startup Menu". In this menu choose option 3 by pressing the 3 key and press enter. go to the url in my source and u will get a picture of how the startup menu looks like. and just run defrag just like you do in normal mode and see how it works. gud luck.

you dont need to go into safe mode unless you have a really bad virus or spyware. open My Computer RIGHT click on your C drive Properties Tools Defrag

keep pressing F8 before windows loads to get into the alternative windows boot menu.

Reboot the pc and hit F8 after the POST screen. Select Safe Mode from the screen that comes up.

Hey... do not mess with safe mode if you do not know how to get there... you could harm your system.
